From the Rev'd George and Etsuko Schulenberg:
Dear family and friends,
As you all may know by this time, a strong earthquake has shaken much of northeastern Japan, with devastating consequences in the Sendai area. Etsuko and I are not sure at this point what the situation is with Etsuko's two brothers and their families, who live in Totsuka - a southern suburb of Yokohama. We do know that there has been some quake damage in parts of Tokyo, but the major impact at this point seems to be that train travel was suspended (thus stranding millions of people at their work places in Tokyo/Yokohama) and that cell phone communication is out. Japan is also fifteen hours ahead of us in time, so that makes timely communication difficult. You can keep up fairly well with what is happening there by TV, or by Googling three English newspapers published in Japan. They have complete articles, plus many photos. The papers are the Japan Times, the Mainichi Daily News, and the Yomiuri Shinbun. Please keep the people of Japan in your prayers, as the danger of aftershocks is quite real, there are some questions about power plants (especially the nuclear ones), and the coastal area towns and cities have taken a terrible hit.
Blessings to you,
George and Etsuko
